Thing 23: Reflection

Well this whole process was interesting in itself. When i first started I was like wow! this is going to be fun, and it was at first and then i started getting busy and took a break from it. Then I came back a few months later and now I've accomplished my goal.There were a few sites I never heard of before like delicious, podcast, digg, and ning. I enjoyed working with twitter, Instant messenger, and flickr mashup. These site I will most defiantly continue to use in the future.

Some challenges I had included podcast, libworm, and Ning. These are sites i had trouble with, and didn't really care to much for. I thought that they are good, and useful for what they are, but wasn't as useful to me.

But overall my experience with 23 things was awesome, I have learned how to use google docs, which did i mention it is free!!! and an easy way to share documents with others. I have learned how to use flickr mashup to produce art work of my own, and I do hope that I be able to participate in future programs like this.

Developing your own 23 Things for your library

In a world that changes daily we must keep up with the newest technology and keep our skills tuned up. I was happy to know that everyone at my Library not only participated in North Texas 23 Things but finished. By doing this it shows their dedication to providing excellent customer service. This also made us realize how fast technology is changing and so by seeing this I hope we are able to do something like this once a year to keep up with the trends.

Podcast

Podcasts are a great way to share audio files. They are pretty handy for recording storytimes, author visits and book talks for those library patrons who use library's electronic resourses. I sampled several library podcasts from the list given.The sound quality was excellent.I do think Podcast can be a useful tool for library patrons.

YouTube

YouTube is a interesting site you can see all types of footage. From music videos to Poet Jams to Library stuff, etc. I like YouTube, because it does offer a variety of things. I went to the video below. I think it did an overall good job on what it wanted to portray.

Google Docs

The Best thing about Google Docs is the fact that it is FREE!!! One more time Free!!! I understood google doc and had fun working with it. It is an easy way to share documents with out attaching it. I enjoyed playing around with google doc, and will be using it when I will be using more then one computer, becaus eit is easy to save and get to with out saving to a flash drive, or floppy.

Wikis

I use wikipedia sometime when researching a particular issue, and I find it to be very helpful. Wikis are a great way to share information. Wikipedia has been used for a some time amongst students, faculty, and etc.The only problem is that sometimes the information is incorrect. I did not like building my own wiki page on Wetpaint. I thought that is was okay overall, it was a good practice excercise.

LibWorm

Libworm is not for me, but it seems like a ueful website for librarians, or library lovers. I saw while doing my search that there were job postings. There were many articles that you can read and catch up on issues happening around the world with libraries. This is strictly to find information about libraries.

Library Thing

I found library thing to be a kool social networking site. Working in the Library system i found that a lot of people want to know the name of the last item they checked out, and as of right now the library does't offer that service. So this is a good service that people can really take advantage of. Also it allows you to share books with other people around the world.

Digg

This is a cool way to find news, entertainment,Technology,Gadgets,Hardware,Software
World & Business more Business & Finance ,World News,Political News, Political, Opinion, Science more Environment, General Sciences. You can look up stuff by genre, or by time frame. look what i was reading about google, or after google.......

Delicious

Ning

Ning another social network thats like myspace, or facebook. They have so many different groups, and you are able to create your own social network site. I looked at O.D. Wyatt Network and it was interesting, you are able to hook up with old friends, and associates, teachers and just do a lot of things.

Twitter

Hello Everyone! I signed up for twitter today. It seems to be ok. I was able to set up and i'm currently following 8 people and have 4 people following me so thats kool. I did have problems finding a couple of people that i know is on here because they signed up the same time i did. I hear about twitter everyday, on a commercial, or on the news. So see if you can find me Jermainemaine07 is my user name.

Tagging

Does tagging belong in the library? I say yes, why not, people love the Capability to find things easy, and so with being aboe to tag, they can mark what they will use most often. I think the Tags will complement the subject heading, and bring more to it. I think we shoud encourage it and find ways to improve. So these are my thoughts on the issue.

Instant Messaging

Instant messaging has been apart of my life for a few years now. I love that when i want to talk to someone without picking up the phone, or emailing i can go to Hotmail messanger and talk to my friends. ALso I like the real time replies if the other person is paying attention (lol). I'm actually doing it now, while im doing this so it so kool.

More Facebook

Since being on facebooki have come across friends, family, and coworkers i haven't seen or talk to and a long time. I also joined several groups such as cnacer awareness, i became a fan of several people like Whitney Houston, Trey Songs and many others. I have played games and socialize with people.

Facebook

This is an awesome social network site, I was against it at first because i already had a myspace. Now everybody I know have a facebook, and using all the tool it offers, from games to quizes. This is something i will keep up with even after 23 things is over with.

RSS feeds

This kool and goes with the blog reader it is good to publish frequently updated works such as blog entries,news headlines audios and videos in a standard format. Very good way to benifit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. I understand it a little better since I have done my blog reader, still trying to grasp it all.

Blog readers

The blog reader was simple and did not take long at all. I just went to google, logged in, went to add stuff, hit a add a gadget and the link to North Texas 23 was visible on my google home page. Thsi is an easy way to keep up with all the blogs you are following.

Image Generator

This was again a unique thing to do. The image generator was Kool, I do wish i used a different picture. Making the chess roadside sign was Nice and easy to do. All these sites are useful and give you step by step instructions.

Flickr Mashup

This was a kool thing to do you have so many different sites you can use such as :http://metaatem.net/words/, http://flickrsudoku.com/, http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/. All these website let you play around and use different elemnts to create. These tools are kool and make your page look interesting. The images you can use and make just demands attention from the people looking at it. I can see using this in the library system.

Flickr

Okay everybody it's been awhile since i been on here, but i'm back. I worked on flickr and linked it to my blog. This was a fun thing to do, basically putting pictures on an acoount, and grouoing them togeter and lnking to your account was easy. It is a simple concept that dont take much time.
